Maren began her musical studies at a young age, taking piano lessons from her mother. At age nine, her mother enrolled her and her siblings in a beginning orchestra class where Maren was given a viola to play. Although the rest of her family didn’t continue after that year, Maren had fallen in love with the instrument and has pursued that love ever since.
After attending the Britt Festival String Quartet Academy and meeting the Arianna String Quartet, she was offered a scholarship to pursue a degree in viola performance at the University of Missouri – St. Louis, where she graduated with honors. Two months after graduation, she married Josh, who attended the same university and had been her sweetheart since youth orchestra.
Currently, she enjoys teaching a full schedule of violin and viola students, teaching strings for the Lake Oswego School District, directing the Stafford Chamber Orchestra, and freelancing in the Portland area.
Growing up in a musical family, Josh quickly developed a passion for music and performance. At young ages, he and his siblings formed a quartet that played in the Portland area for over ten years.
Music has given him the opportunity to perform around the world, including the countries of England, Japan, and Brazil. He has also performed with numerous local orchestras such as the Astoria Music Festival Orchestra, the Oregon Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, and is a former member of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.
Due to a chronic injury, Josh is unable to pursue music full time, but he desires to use his music to uplift and inspire others.
